(scribbled notes from my journal // 18.10.2015)

O N E – It’s okay if you don’t wanna go to that party. It’s okay to stay home on a Friday night.

T W O – If you don’t like the way your hair looks or the kind of clothes you wear, don’t be afraid of something new. Life is constant change. Just go with it. Mix it up.

T H R E E – If you’ve had a few drinks too much, make sure you drink a lot of water before you go to sleep. Your head won’t feel so heavy in the morning.

F O U R – Don’t forget about yourself. It’s great if you have people in your life you care about deeply. But please don’t lose yourself in the process of valuing someone else.

F I V E – You don’t have to sleep with anyone if you don’t feel comfortable with it. But if you do, go for it. You do you.

S I X – Taking a long warm shower and crawling into bed with some chocolate can make you feel a little better.

S E V E N – People will come and go and sometimes when you least expect it. It’s okay to be sad but just know that eventually, you’ll be fine again.

E I G H T – If you’re angry, start organising your desk, clean your room, do some laundry. Release all the anger by doing something productive.

N I N E – It’s okay to spend all your money on concert tickets. It’s okay if it makes you feel happy and alive and at peace with yourself. Go do the things you love.

T E N – Be kind. But don’t let anyone fool you.

E L E V E N – Make memories. Take photos. Go on spontaneous trips. Buy souvenirs. Try new food. Live life to its fullest.

T W E L V E – It’s okay to be sad. It’s okay if you want to be alone for some time and you don’t need to give any reasons for that.

T H I R T E E N – The way people treat their parents, the waiter at a restaurant and old ladies on a crowded bus can tell you a lot about them.

F O U R T E E N – Stop waiting for a boy to fall in love with. The best things in your life will happen unplanned.

F I V E T E E N – Know what you deserve and never settle for less.

S I X T E E N – Go to school. Get that education that is offered to you. Work hard to accomplish your goals. I strongly believe that the stress school is causing you right now will be something to laugh about in maybe 10 years from now.

S E V E N T E E N – Beauty does not mean skinny, long hair and perfect skin. Beauty is so much more than just looks and I know you’ve heard this about a thousand times but it really does come from the inside. Be sure to remember that.

E I G H T E E N – Be you, and let others be them. Nobody should ever feel the need to hide parts of them if they actually want to tell the whole world about it. Dress the way you want to dress. Love who you want to love. Listen to the music you like. Speak up if you have something important to say. Never try to impress someone by being someone you’re not.

(I know, this was very cliché. But I’ve been reading it every once in a while since I’ve first written it and I always find myself forgetting bits and pieces. So here’s to being eighteen. And here’s to not being eighteen anymore.)
